Central Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ)

Outreach

The outreach of Central Christian Church seeks to create opportunities for the congregation to build relationships with and be involved in our community while sharing God's Light and Love.

We strive to live this mission by having community space on our property for Acers Community Garden, Central Dog Park, and a field used by the YMCA for children's sports practices and games.

We also have the Westside Workers Group that meets every Tuesday to knit, sew, and any other craft they may do (generally they make beautiful pillows and blankets). These labors of love go to local hospitals to become comfort items in cancer wings and other long term care areas of the hospital.

For Thanksgiving and Christmas, we make Homemade Pumpkin Pies for Austin Street Centre. From making the crust from scratch to cleaning, baking and pureeing fresh pumpkins for the pie filling, we made 30 pies for Thanksgiving and 70 pies for Christmas this past year.

We also have adopted Maple Lawn Elementary, which serves and teaches many of the underprivileged children in our community. We are committed to help teachers collect the supplies needed for special projects, volunteer to tutor children, and most recently help provide Christmas for the children.

Through the congregation’s giving as well as through the special contributions of other church groups, such as Sunday school classes, Central Christian Church gives financial support to several community organizations.

By working together with other congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) through the Week of Compassion  and Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries, Central Christian Church is able to support ministries to people in times of crises such as floods, storms and other disasters. Some of these will be close at hand here in North Texas and others will be around the world. A regular offering is taken each February for the Week of Compassion to help them respond quickly when unexpected disasters strike.
