Chi Rho Symbols
The symbol that looks like a P and an X overlapping is called chi rho. It is actually the two Greek letters chi (Χ - which corresponds to the two English letters ch) and rho (Ρ – which corresponds to the English letter r, even though it looks like a p). In Greek, these are the first two letters of Christ. By superimposing them on each other, usually in an elongated fashion, they remind us of the cross. So sometimes they are shown as a P with a cross on its leg.
