The Christ Candle
The Lamb is also on the stand for the Christ Candle. From Moses and the burning bush (Exodus 3) to Pentecost (Acts 2), fire is frequently a sign of God’s presence in Scripture. The flame of the candles on the communion table is a sign that Christ is present as we gather in the name of Jesus to worship God and celebrate the Lord’s Supper. The candles on the communion table are lit from the Christ candle as a sign that Jesus is the source of our life and power. Because of the connection to Pentecost, flames are also symbols of the Holy Spirit.
