Cross and Crown
The cross is the essential core of the Gospel, the climax of the life of Jesus, the fulcrum of God’s redemptive plan for all people everywhere. We are able to be in God’s presence for worship because of Jesus death on the cross and resurrection to eternal life. The crown encircling a cross is a symbol of Jesus Christ’s sovereignty. He is the heir of Israel’s great King David. He is the King of the universe who is now hidden and will come in glory. He is already the loved King of all who trust him. Unlike human kings, Jesus kingdom is a kingdom of the cross, of lovingly giving himself for others. The cross where he died is his “throne” which the source of his authority and power.
