Our Purpose

We provide a channel through which women in the congregational Disciples Women’s groups and the regional Disciples Women’s groups in the United States and Canada may be joined in fellowship and find means for effective participation in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Through Disciples Women sponsored events women are invited to share the Good News through:

  • Worship for spiritual growth and renewed discipleship;
  • Bible Study for greater knowledge, understanding, and service;
  • Issue study for action and advocacy;
  • Mission Study for knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of others;
  • Service / Action for hands-on / personal involvement;
  • Fellowship /Networking for building the faith community with other women;
  • Leadership training for service to God in Disciples Women, the church, and the community; and
  • Stewardship of time, talent, and resources for the mission of the Church.

We seek to move faithfully into the future to which God calls us, we affirm:

  • That vibrant and vital congregation lie at the very heart of who and what we are as Disciples of Christ;
  • That we are to be faithful, growing church demonstrating true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion  for justice and; and
  • That unity remains our “Polar Star” as we seek to strengthen our witness and relationships with our ecumenical partners.

Locally at Central Christian Church we support many different groups such as:

  • Meals on Wheels; delivering meals to people who can’t make themselves food for whatever reason
  • Rainbow Room; we donate items where CPS (Child Protective Services) caseworkers can go to get immediate needs for children who just left bad situations-i.e., shoes, underwear, shirts, or a stuffed animal;
  • Angels on Call; Home made soup ready to deliver to Church Members in crisis;
  • Austin Street Centre; local homeless shelter that prepares people to function again in society
    Family Place; helping victims of Domestic Abuse; and
  • North Dallas Shared Ministries; they have been providing counsel and advice, food and financial assistance to people since 1983.

We also as a group support the North Texas Area, which has its own charities that it supports.  We send a donation to the Basic Mission Finance in Indianapolis, which supports Missions Worldwide.  We also support Church Women United, a movement representing Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other Christian Women who are impassioned by the Holy Spirit to act on behalf of women and children throughout the world to put and end to Human Slavery.

Central Christian Church first organized this Christian Women’s Fellowship in 1928!

We also started an evening group for women who worked during the day; this was formed in 1973 and disbanded in 2003.

Please join us on the first Tuesday @ 10:30am in Little Church from September to May.

Disciples Women’s Ministries Prayer

Unto you, O God, we give our thanks and lift our hearts in prayer.  May your presence be with us and your loves surround us as we work together as women of faith.  Open our eyes to the needs of the world and fill our hearts with concern for all people.  Guide us that we may truly serve you through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
