An Invitation to Join Our Church Family
Do you desire to belong to a local gathering of inspired followers of Jesus who are dedicated to helping their neighbors and each other? Membership at Central Christian Church means agreeing to participate in a “good news community”. Our faith is practiced in reaction to positively confessing the following good news: “Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God, and God has raised him from the dead. Jesus is Lord and Savior”. Mt. 16:15-17, Rom. 10:8-9
Membership at Central Christian Church begins with this public confession, (usually in response to an invitation in a worship service from the Pastor). However, that’s only the beginning in helping you on your journey of faith! Practical ways we help each other to discover and follow Jesus also include:
Why become a member?
Church membership is a covenant relationship in which Christians commit themselves to God and to each other to worship, learn and serve together as a mission community.
What is required for membership?
Faith in Jesus Christ is the only qualification for membership with Central Christian Church. Along with other congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we emphasize the oneness of all Christians, rather than a particular theological perspective or specific denominational tradition.
What must I do to become a member?
Ordinarily people indicate their desire to become members of Central Christian Church by coming to the front at the pastor’s invitation during the singing of the last hymn of worship. The pastor will ask, “Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and do you trust him as your lord and savior?” After an affirmative answer, the pastor will lead the congregation in welcoming the new member.
What about baptism?
Congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) practice believer’s baptism by immersion. Those who have not been baptized in this way are encouraged to do so. Affirming the oneness of all Christians, all forms of Christian baptism are recognized. As baptism is the Biblical sign of incorporation into the Church, members who have never been baptized should speak to the pastor to arrange for baptism as promptly as practical.
What if I have more questions?
If you have questions about faith in Jesus Christ, Central Christian Church, membership, baptism or want to explore an alternate to joining the church at the conclusion of worship, call the church’s office to make an appointment with the pastor at your convenience.
When needed, a 2-1/2 hour luncheon-class is offered to answer prospective member’s questions about Central Christian Church. Lunch and nursery are provided. It is a time when visitors can hear directly from the pastor and a few church leaders about the ongoing vision of the church and its core beliefs. Several church members will give their personal testimonies as well.
Also, we have found that most of our visitors like to share with us about their faith journey too! This is an opportunity to share, but is not mandatory. Lastly we leave time to answer any questions about the church. This orientation has been helpful to others before they came forward to join during Sunday morning worship.
