Joining Central Christian Church
Why become a member?
Church membership is a covenant relationship in which Christians commit themselves to God and to each other to worship, learn and serve together as a mission community.
What is required for membership?
Faith in Jesus Christ is the only qualification for membership with Central Christian Church. Along with other congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we emphasize the oneness of all Christians, rather than a particular theological perspective or specific denominational tradition.
What must I do to become a member?
Ordinarily people indicate their desire to become members of Central Christian Church by coming to the front at the pastor’s invitation during the singing of the last hymn of worship. The pastor will ask, “Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and do you trust him as your lord and savior?” After an affirmative answer, the pastor will lead the congregation in welcoming the new member.
What about baptism?
Congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) practice believer’s baptism by immersion. Those who have not been baptized in this way are encouraged to do so. Affirming the oneness of all Christians, all forms of Christian baptism are recognized. As baptism is the Biblical sign of incorporation into the Church, members who have never been baptized should speak to the pastor to arrange for baptism as promptly as practical.
What if I have more questions?
If you have questions about faith in Jesus Christ, Central Christian Church, membership, baptism or want to explore an alternate to joining the church at the conclusion of worship, call the church’s office to make an appointment with the pastor at your convenience.
