Lamb Carving on the Communion Table
The carving on the front of the communion table is of a lamb holding a banner and sitting on a book with seven seals, which is based on the images in Revelation 5. The sealed book represents God’s hidden purposes for humanity. Only the Lamb who was slain, who is also the Lion of Judah, is worthy to open these seals and see God’s plan. The climax of the chapter is the wonderful worship directed to the Lamb, who is Jesus Christ. The Lamb also carries a banner of victory. This carving reminds us of Jesus sacrifice and victory for us and that Christ is ultimately in control of the outcome of history. It is a call to join in the heavenly worship described in Revelation.
