Rose of Sharon Symbols
The five-pedaled flowers in the stained glass windows are Roses of Sharon. This flower grew in the fertile coastal plain of central Israel and is referred to in the Song of Songs 2:1. Because Isaiah 35:1-2 uses this area as a symbol for the lushness of the promised Kingdom of God, the Rose of Sharon became a symbol for Jesus’ promised return to restore all of creation. Martin Luther chose it as his personal symbol of hope.
