Ship Symbols in the Chapel
The ship is an ancient symbol for the Church. It speaks of how the crew works and lives together to reach its destination, just as the people of the church encourage each other on the journey to the Kingdom of God. The sailors are dependent on the hull to keep them afloat and the wind to propel them, just as Christians are dependent on Christ to rescue us from sin and the Holy Spirit to empower us to live together in community.
