Live Hope Group Ministries

Our Live Hope Group Ministries (small group ministries) offer several different approaches to Christian spirituality and growth. We have groups which meet morning, night, in homes, church or online, with all ages and backgrounds. They all are characterized by genuine fellowship, caring community, and a sense of life purpose. The only person missing might be you. Growth groups are one of the best ways to discover God’s will by interacting with others on the same journey.

Lakewood Bible Study

Meeting time: Every Wednesday, 7:00-8:00 PM
Place: the home of John & Rocio Cunyus, Lakewood Area
Study or theme: Song of Solomon
Contact John Cunyus: 214-662-5494 or by email, john@johncunyus.com

We study books of the Bible in depth, especially observing the language, and literary genre.  John our leader is very knowledgeable and a published author on the subjects of interpretation and comparative religions, and he still keeps his sense of  humor. We are working our way through the Wisdom literature of the Old Testament: Job, Proverbs, and the Song of Solomon are next.

Exploring Prayer

Meeting time: 2nd and 4th Tuesday, 7:00 PM
Place: the home of Wendell & Suzie Patterson, Lemmon and Toll Way
Study or theme: Prayer
Contact: B. J. Austin (903-386-5834)

We have looked at the Lord's Prayer line by line. Now we are examining historical prayers and their context and their meaning in our lives.

We follow the Dietrich Bonheoffer observation that "laughter precedes prayer". When we meet we share what is going on in our personal lives, what is bugging us, what we are excited and thankful for. Then we develop a prayer list which can be general to intensively personal. Then we are lead in prayer by one of Central Christian's great prayer saints . . .B.J. Austin.

We also occasionally take on a service project. …..like polishing the
Communion table silver, for example. Occasionally, we bring food and have a small feast. We always have cookies and French lemonade. We all really do look forward to this. It is important to us. It is fun. It is quite meaningful.

Highland Park Study

Meeting time: 1st and 3rd Tuesday, 7:00—9:00 PM
Place: the home of Bill & Nancy Anderton, Highland Park, Dallas
Study or theme: Where Is God When It Hurts?
Contact: Candy Stolpe (214.902.8127)

We consist of couples as well as individuals without their spouses. We have a mix of people, some with a lot of Bible knowledge, (including our pastor Norm), to those with relatively little knowledge. We’ll begin this fall using Phillip Yancey’s book and study materials which focus on the role of pain in God's plan for life and how we can respond to it. Call, order your copy, and journey along.

Women's Prayer and Share

Meeting time: Every Wednesday, 10:00—11:30 AM
Place: near 635 and Preston Rd., Valley View Area
Study or theme: Slightly Bad Girls of the Bible
Contact: Grace Anne Crank (972.523.6520)

We meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., where we share our concerns, joys, and the Bible. We are studying women of the Bible, learning they are much like us. Come join us for an uplifting, invigorating gathering of ladies wanting to draw closer to the Lord. The ongoing study is on “Slightly Bad Girls of the Bible”. Come join us for an uplifting, invigorating gathering of ladies wanting to draw closer to the Lord.

The Sawdust Makers

Meeting time: Every Thursday, 7:00—9:00 PM
Place: at the home of Jim Archer, White Rock Lake Area
Study or theme: Christian fellowship & woodworking skill enhancement. Brotherhood/Fun, Getting to Know Our Fellow Members, Cookies.

We have great time of fellowship as we work on all types of wood working projects our friends and church challenge us with. Come and share your skills or lack there of. For the guy who doesn’t have room or time to keep up a shop at home. Meet in the White Rock Lake area. This is a Brotherhood of fun time, getting to know our fellow members. We have met continuously since March, 2007. Come join us.

Live On-Line Bible Study

Meeting time: Every Wednesday, 8:00-9:00 PM, beginning September 17
Place: computer/ppt/chat and cell phone, with occasional real “Meet Ups”
Study or theme: the Life of Jesus through the Gospel of Mark
Contact: Todd Boddy (972.547.0465)

Come and join us this fall  as we continue the exciting series on the life of Jesus of Nazareth. We use online power point, chat, and phone bridge. We will travel with Jesus from his early ministry of preaching the Kingdom, healing and casting out of demons, to his final week in Jerusalem.   Along the way we will examine the mysterious identity of Jesus, whose teaching, authority, and self proclaimed titles make him a high candidate for pushing us to the brink of a decision: Was he Lord, Liar, or Lunatic?

This study may challenge what we have believed about the religion and spirituality God desires as Jesus confronts the established institutions and theology of his day. There is never a dull or unpractical moment in the gospel of Mark, as we ask, “What if God were one of us?”

About Our Live Hope Group Ministry

The small group ministry is known as Live Hope Groups.

  • Live Hope Groups are an expression of the life of Central Christian Church.
  • A Live Hope Group is people who agree to gather for an identified purpose related to Christian faith.
  • Live Hope Groups are for everyone from the spiritually curious to committed church members.
  • The people in these groups care about and for each other.
  • Live Hope Groups are intentionally looking to include people who are new to Central Christian Church.
  • Live Hope Groups usually start with 8-12 people. However, new people are welcomed and encouraged to join the group.
  • Live Hope Groups meet for a set season, usually 6-10 times.
  • Many Live Hope Groups will meet twice a month, but some will meet weekly.
  • When the planned time of meeting has concluded, the group may make a new plan for another specific purpose and set number of meetings. Hopefully, groups will often have grown enough to start two new groups.
  • Live Hope Groups usually meet in homes but can meet anywhere suitable for the group’s purposes, even online.
  • They meet at any time convenient for those in the group. For groups to meet at times that overlap other groups or events that do not involve those in the group is to be expected.
  • Each group has a leader who organizes and guides the group. Each leader works with an apprentice whose goal is to eventually start another group.
Live Hope Groups are forming and transitioning frequently. To inquire about participating in a Live Hope Group, contact the church office by phone or email.
