Our Live Hope Group Ministries (small group ministries) offer several different approaches to Christian spirituality and growth. We have groups which meet morning, night, in homes, church or online, with all ages and backgrounds. They all are characterized by genuine fellowship, caring community, and a sense of life purpose. The only person missing might be you. Growth groups are one of the best ways to discover God’s will by interacting with others on the same journey.

Exploring Prayer

Meeting time: 2nd and 4th Tuesday, 7:00 PM
Place: the home of Wendell & Suzie Patterson, Lemmon and Toll Way
Study or theme: Prayer
Contact: B. J. Austin (903-386-5834)

We have looked at the Lord's Prayer line by line. Now we are examining historical prayers and their context and their meaning in our lives.

We follow the Dietrich Bonheoffer observation that "laughter precedes prayer". When we meet we share what is going on in our personal lives, what is bugging us, what we are excited and thankful for. Then we develop a prayer list which can be general to intensively personal. Then we are lead in prayer by one of Central Christian's great prayer saints . . .B.J. Austin.

We also occasionally take on a service project. …..like polishing the
Communion table silver, for example. Occasionally, we bring food and have a small feast. We always have cookies and French lemonade. We all really do look forward to this. It is important to us. It is fun. It is quite meaningful.

About Our Live Hope Group Ministry

The small group ministry is known as Live Hope Groups.

  • Live Hope Groups are an expression of the life of Central Christian Church.
  • A Live Hope Group is people who agree to gather for an identified purpose related to Christian faith.
  • Live Hope Groups are for everyone from the spiritually curious to committed church members.
  • The people in these groups care about and for each other.
  • Live Hope Groups are intentionally looking to include people who are new to Central Christian Church.
  • Live Hope Groups usually start with 8-12 people. However, new people are welcomed and encouraged to join the group.
  • Live Hope Groups meet for a set season, usually 6-10 times.
  • Many Live Hope Groups will meet twice a month, but some will meet weekly.
  • When the planned time of meeting has concluded, the group may make a new plan for another specific purpose and set number of meetings. Hopefully, groups will often have grown enough to start two new groups.
  • Live Hope Groups usually meet in homes but can meet anywhere suitable for the group’s purposes, even online.
  • They meet at any time convenient for those in the group. For groups to meet at times that overlap other groups or events that do not involve those in the group is to be expected.
  • Each group has a leader who organizes and guides the group. Each leader works with an apprentice whose goal is to eventually start another group.
Live Hope Groups are forming and transitioning frequently. To inquire about participating in a Live Hope Group, contact the church office by phone or email.
