Westside Workers
In February of 2000, a group of ladies decided we would rather do something for others than give up something for Lent. Many had worked for years with the church bazaar and missed getting together each week.
Alice Oates was instrumental in finding Parkland Hospital as an outlet for our endeavors. We used many of the materials left over from the bazaar to get us started: yarn, material, knitting needles, crochet hooks and sewing machines.
Subsequent funding was provided through a cookbook we put together in 2002, with recipes donated by members of Central. Funding is continued today through memorial gifts and donations from generous friends.
The Westside Workers would like to extend a warm welcome to any who would like to join us in creating items for cancer patients. When you read the notes we get from those who have received some our items, you realize we are doing something worthwhile. We make pillows, afghans, blankets, caps and slippers.
Even if you can’t knit, crochet or sew, we have a place for you!
We meet every Wednesday, at 10:00 AM in Room 101 of the church's education building. Bring a sack lunch.
